About the Home

Once the village sweet shop, this historic cottage in the Mendip Hills has been newly renovated into a charming & comfortable space. Nestled in the friendly village of Westbury-sub-Mendip, just a few miles from Wells, it offers an open-plan kitchen diner with all the mod cons, a cosy living room with a smart TV, and an impressive original fireplace. Upstairs, there’s a king room with an ensuite and a double room with a separate bathroom. Enjoy a small garden, patio, and private garage parking. The Mendip Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, offer a perfect blend of adventure, history, and breathtaking scenery. Such as the West Mendip Way, leading to panoramic views, while Ebbor Gorge and Cheddar Gorge provide dramatic limestone landscapes for hiking, rock climbing, and caving. Local amenities are also close by. Hikers can also explore trails right from the doorstep of the cottage. You'll find a well-stocked village shop and friendly pub which serves food within a 5 minute walk of the cottage. For an underground adventure, visit Wookey Hole Caves, home to stunning rock formations and ancient legends. Cyclists can enjoy the Strawberry Line, a scenic route through the peaceful countryside. Wildlife enthusiasts will love the diverse flora and fauna in the Mendip Hills, including rare butterflies and birds of prey. Picturesque villages such as Priddy and Draycott boast traditional pubs, historic churches, and local markets. For history lovers, Wells, England’s smallest city, is less than a 10-minute drive. It features the stunning Wells Cathedral and the medieval Bishop’s Palace. The city centre is well known for its bustling High Street and Market Place, where there is a produce market on Wednesday's and Saturdays. There is also a plethora of pubs, restaurants and cafes. Glastonbury similarly has a wide range of independent and artisan shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs. Stunning views can also be enjoyed from the Torr. And of course, the world-famous Glastonbury Festival is within easy reach. It's only around 18-20 minutes drive from the cottage. Whether you seek relaxation or adventure, the Mendip Hills offer the perfect countryside escape! No outdoor shoes to be worn inside. Thanks! We welcome a maximum of 2 dogs on the condition they are kept off sofas, out of bedrooms and not left in the property unattended. There is an additional fee of £20/dog.
