The Belair Carriage House Newport
About the Home
STAY Newport proudly presents The Belair Carriage House. Tucked behind stone walls on Old Beach Road, The Belair Carriage House is a Gilded Age masterpiece reborn. This 1875 Flemish Renaissance "fairytale castle" has been painstakingly reimagined as a 6,000-sq-ft private estate. Blending curated antiques with modern AC, it features a chef’s kitchen, billiard room, and 5 bedrooms. Outside, a grotto-like retreat offers a hot tub, fire pit, and luxurious outdoor kitchen. Experience ultimate privacy, walking distance to the ocean and bustling harbor. Set discreetly behind stone walls along storied Old Beach Road, The Belair Carriage House is an extraordinary oasis, and one of Newport’s most captivating architectural survivors of the Gilded Age. Originally part of the historic Belair estate, Newport pioneer and industrialist George H. Norman gave innovative architect Dudley Newton carte blanche to design a stable. The result is this fairytale castle in Flemish Renaissance Revival style, celebrated to this day as among the most architecturally significant carriage houses in Newport. It’s been re-imagined as a single family, using period-appropriate architectural antiques, rounded out by all the modern conveniences. The Belair Carriage House remains a rare anomaly—an intact and deeply charactered estate building - offering both privacy and provenance – within walking-distance from Newport’s bustling harbor, beaches, and Bellevue Avenue. This is a premiere offering to select tenants for a minimum of a 30-day period. This 6,000-square-foot residence is a triumph of design, with a stunning chef’s kitchen, up to 5 bedrooms, billiard room, two living rooms, and home office, all in the comfort of modern AC. The backyard is a private retreat reminiscent of a Roman grotto, offering a hot tub, fire pit, outdoor grill, outdoor dining area, and an outdoor shower. Whether you are enjoying a quiet evening under the stars, or a cup of morning coffee on the deck, this space is unmatched for those seeking tranquility. This part of Newport is especially appealing because it places you near some of the city’s most established coastal landmarks while keeping daily access to beaches, marinas, and restaurants close at hand. Easton's Beach is nearby for swimming and sunbathing, Ocean Drive offers one of Newport’s signature waterfront routes, and Lower Thames brings together some of the city’s best known restaurants, shops, and harbor activity. Harbour Court and Fort Adams are also close, which adds sailing, waterfront events, and broad views across the bay. This property is available for stays of 30 nights or longer only. The garage is not available for guest use.
