Description
Wagtail is a one-bedroom eco-cabin at The Hide, our small off-grid site in the trees on the edge of Market Drayton. Raised on stilts into a wooded bank, it is made for slow days: a log burner, birch-lined rooms, a super king bed framed by a wide window onto the meadow, and a private terrace with an outdoor bath and BBQ. Walk into town for supper, or stay put and let the stillness do its work. A retreat for two. Wagtail sits among the trees at The Hide, a small group of off-grid cabins on the outskirts of Market Drayton in rural Shropshire, a short walk from the town and close to the River Tern. Raised on stilts into the slope and clad in dark and olive timber, it looks out across open meadow and mature oaks. Inside, every wall and ceiling is lined in pale birch, which catches the daylight and holds the warmth of the fire. Living - Open-plan lounge and dining space with a wood-burning stove - Deep modular sofa with a chaise end, made for long evenings by the fire - Round dining table for two beneath a wide pendant light - Full-height sliding glass doors that open straight onto the terrace Kitchen - Compact kitchen in cornflower blue with a stainless steel worktop and splashback - Two-ring induction hob, fridge, and a sink with a Quooker boiling-water tap, plus cookware and tableware for two Bedroom - Platform super king bed dressed in crisp white linen and a textured throw - A wide picture window framing the meadow and treeline, the first thing you see each morning - Wall lights, a bedside shelf and a small dressing shelf Bathroom - Walk-in rainfall shower with a separate hand shower - Olive-green walls, stacked cream tiles and a concrete basin - Towels and toiletries provided Hallway - Built-in birch wardrobes and open shelving, so bags can be unpacked and forgotten Outside - Private, screened timber terrace - Galvanised outdoor bath for soaking under the trees, or the stars - Charcoal BBQ, a low outdoor table and a pair of lounge chairs By design, evenings belong to the fire, a book and the dark sky. Wagtail is off-grid and runs on solar power. It is built for couples and solo travellers who want to slow down: to read, cook simply, walk, bathe outdoors and sleep well. Market Drayton sits where Shropshire meets Staffordshire and the Welsh borders: an old market town with a slower rhythm, and a long-held claim to be the home of gingerbread. Walk The Shropshire Union Canal runs close to town, with easy towpath walks and cycle routes. Hawkstone Park Follies has sandstone cliffs, grottoes and woodland trails, and Loggerheads Country Park is a short drive away. History St Mary's Church has stood over the town since medieval times, and the Market Drayton Museum tells the local story. Ironbridge Gorge, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution, makes an easy day out. Eat and drink The town centre is a short walk from the cabin, with traditional pubs such as The Red Lion and The Four Alls serving locally sourced food by the fire, a local brewery, and independent cafés for slower afternoons. Gardens and further afield Dorothy Clive Garden changes with every season, and Chester, Shrewsbury and the Welsh borders are all within easy reach by car. Wagtail is off-grid and powered by solar. Please be mindful of energy use during your stay, as heavy use of high-draw appliances can affect power across the whole site. The kitchen has a two-ring induction hob and no oven, so it suits simple cooking. The cabin is raised, with external steps up to the terrace and entrance.
