Kailua-Kona & Keauhou
Kailua-Kona and Keauhou are the town side of the Big Island's dry, sunny west coast. There's a historic waterfront, beginner snorkeling at Kahaluʻu, night manta trips from Keauhou Bay and Honokōhau Harbor, the fishing fleet, and coffee farms on the slopes above. This guide covers where to stay along Aliʻi Drive and what's worth the drive south and north.

The Big Island: Kona, Kohala, Hilo and Volcano
Hawaiʻi Island has two climates. The dry, sunny west (Kona and the Kohala resorts) is where most homes are. The wet, green east (Hilo, Puna and Volcano) is next to Kīlauea, which is erupting in episodes inside a closed area of the national park. This guide covers where to base yourself, drive times, what you can and can't see at the volcano in October 2026, and how 2018 changed the Puna coast.
