A four-bedroom house on a quiet street in West Asheville, built in 1992 and lived in ever since. Two and a half baths, a kitchen stocked down to the salt and the good olive oil, and a screened porch that most guests end up treating as the main room. Haywood Road is five minutes on foot: breakfast, coffee, a bookshop and three good dinners inside a ten-minute walk. Downtown is ten minutes by car, the Blue Ridge Parkway twenty. The back yard is fenced, the willow oak is enormous, and the street is quiet enough to hear it.
