The village itself is built near the ruins of the ancient city of Potidaea, founded in the 7th century BC by Corinthian colonists. While much of the ancient city has been lost to time or lies beneath the modern town, the remnants of the fortification walls and ancient harbor still hint at the area’s historic significance.
