The roads and driveway are plowed, however given the location occasionally there are delays in plowing and you should be prepared to drive in snowy conditions in the winter months. Depending on snowfall and plowing timing, you may need to shovel a few inches of snow off the deck to get to the front door. A shovel and de-icer are in front of the house. —The cabin is in bear/mountain lion country. Do not leave trash or food outside or on the deck. Ensure to lock your car at night (yes bears around here know how to open doors) and do not leave food or fragrant toiletries in your vehicle. Be vigilant with small dogs or children running around. —Up to two well-behaved and house trained dogs are allowed with prior owner approval, with a nonrefundable fee of $60 per dog per stay. It is expected that you pick up your dog’s poop during your stay. Please be aware that there are several free-roaming neighborhood dogs, some of which visit our property. They’re usually friendly. —The unit has electric baseboard heat, however the wood burning stove is a much more efficient way to heat the home if you’re comfortable operating it. We provide plenty of firewood. There is no AC in our home. We find that cracking windows and using a fan or two is more than sufficient to keep the place comfortable in the summer. —Though we love hosting families, please note our stairs, loft railing, and unprotected wood burning stove all as possible hazards to little ones. —The Internet is satellite. This means that in inclement weather, service may be spotty or out completely. There is a smart TV in the house, though no cable; feel free to stream Netflix, Amazon Prime, YouTube, etc. Cell service is generally very reliable! —There is no trash service in the area. You will need to pack your trash out. There are dump stations in Leadville and Buena Vista. —No open fires! No smoking anywhere on the property. Wildfire risk is high and our area is often under a fire ban. —The cabin is on a delicate alpine septic system. Please be mindful of the plumbing and avoid flushing anything other than toilet paper and refraining from putting excess grease or food scraps down the sink. —Staying in the mountains offers a unique and nature-immersed experience, characterized by a rustic charm. You might occasionally encounter some of the local wildlife, insects, and small critters that are part of the natural surroundings. We recommend keeping doors securely closed whenever possible. Rest assured, we've implemented thorough measures to ensure your stay remains undisturbed by these natural inhabitants. —Altitude sickness is real. In Leadville/ Twin Lakes, the elevation can be up to 10,000 feet. Symptoms can include dizziness and nausea, so please be mindful of this. We cannot offer refunds for guests experiencing altitude sickness. If you anticipate being affected, we recommend obtaining insurance at the time of booking.
