Area Kona / Keauhou The sunny Kona district is known for its clear waters and historic Hawaiian landmarks such as the Hulihee Palace, Mokuaikaua Church and Ahuena Heiau, about 8 miles south of the keahole-Kona Airport. Kona is also known for its famous deep-sea fishing, annually hosting the International Billfish Tournament (August), world championship triathlon race, ironman (October) and Kona coffee in the cooler upland slopes. Enjoy daily activities such as snorkeling, diving, paddling, watching spinner dolphins and Hawaiian sea turtles casually swimming by the beach, or watch the boats go by while having a meal or a cocktail on Alii drive. Keauhou Bay is located at the end of Kamehameha III Road, southern kailua Kona, named as the site of the birthplace of King Kamehameha III. Known for perfect water for swimming, canoeing, kayaking and snorkeling, manta sightings and ocean adventures.
